East Village - What new musical delights can we expect from you in respect of releases and this weekend?
Eric Duncan- As for releases. I have a new one out called “FOX” on Golf Channel with Dean from Chicken Lips. We’re called ‘The Rhythm Odyssey & Dr. Dunks’ we have released 3 on Golf Channel now and have 2 more finished and ready to go. Also I have a few remixes out and about to come out for various artists. I just finished a remix of ‘Don’t Stop the Dance’ by Bryan Ferry. I will definitely play that on Saturday.
EV - How did it feel when ID magazine credited you as singled handedly ‘re-invigorated New York night life’?
ED - That was nice of iD to say that about us (rub-n-tug). We had some great after hour parties back around the turn of the century.
EV - Describe Dr Dunks in 3 words?
ED – An inside joke!
EV - Do you have a preferred area of the industry you like to work, DJing, Producing or Remixing?
ED - I like it all. I am a DJ first. All the other things I’m still trying to figure out.
EV – Over the last 12 months, either solo or as Rub n Tug, what is your most memorable DJ moment?
ED- Probably this past New Years Eve. I played in Playa Del Carmen Mexico. The DJ booth was outdoors, in the sand about 50 feet from the Caribbean Sea. I went on at 1am and played thru the Caribbean sunrise until putting the last record on just after 9am. As the sun began to creep over the sea, all the dancers just faced the sunrise and danced into the light. There was definitely some Mayan Sun God thing happening. Totally epic.
EV - Outside of NYC, where do you look forward to visiting most, either club or city and why?
ED - Oh man. Thats tough. I really love all the cities & countries I visit for various reasons. Some are great for food, some for drink, some for friends. It’s impossible to pick just one.
EV - Your favourite DJ right now?
ED - I have a few. Paul T.(Sarcastic) , Justin V., Harvey, Thomas (Rub-N-Tug). Just all my friends really.
EV - Other than playing for Eat The Beat, is there anything in the not so distant future you are really looking forward to?
ED – I’m doing a quick trip to Brazil next month which is always fun. Also the summer will be great. The Garden Festival in July is highlighted on my calendar.
